Could you be missing out on pension credit?

Pension Credit

With an estimated 880,000 pensioners yet to claim Pension Credit, many people across the UK could be missing out on vital financial support. Pension Credit is designed to top up your weekly income if you’re over State Pension age, and even a small amount could open the door to other benefits like full Housing Benefit, council tax reductions, and, if you're over 75, a free TV licence.

Whether you're single or have a partner, it’s worth checking if you're eligible—especially since savings don’t always disqualify you. Having up to £10,000 in savings won’t affect your Pension Credit entitlement, and even those with higher savings could still qualify depending on their other circumstances.

A Pension Credit award can also ensure you qualify for this year’s Winter Fuel Payment, which can be essential as the colder months approach. However, changes this winter mean only those on means-tested benefits, like Pension Credit, will be able to receive this fuel payment. To qualify for the Winter Fuel Payment, you must be entitled to Pension Credit between 16-22 September. As Pension Credit can be backdated for up to 3 months (if you met the conditions 3 months ago), you can claim as late as 21 December 2024. This means you can get 3 months backdated to September, entitling you for the qualifying period for the fuel payment.

But don’t wait, claim now! Check if you’re entitled to Pension Credit on the Better Off calculator. Find out more. We recommend you use this calculator or https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ for the most accurate results.
