Progress on the regeneration of the former Frosts Garage site on Brighton Road, Shoreham with a new affordable housing scheme was marked by a visit from Adur District Council’s Cabinet Member for regeneration an strategic planning, Councillor Steve Neocleous.
Contractor, New Ways, which is constructing the scheme on VIVID’s behalf, kicked off work on site late last year. Aside from the delivery of new affordable homes it will benefit the existing community by providing new commercial units and upgrades to the existing flood defences, as part of the overall redevelopment of the site.
Pedestrianised access along the river edge will also be created, providing an environment for the local community to enjoy. Land from the development site will be contributed towards the new planned cycle path on the A259 to support wider local sustainable transport initiatives. With the original buildings now demolished, the focus of current activity is groundworks before construction work on the new homes starts in earnest in the coming months.
Following the visit, Councillor Steve Neocleous, Adur District Council’s Cabinet member for Regeneration said: “"I was really pleased to be invited along by VIVID, and their construction partners New Ways, to discuss progress, timescales and most importantly engagement with local residents. It's great to see that they are taking an active role in our Developers Forum and that they recognise the need to work with local residents and other nearby construction companies to minimise the impact of the building works. I look forward to further progress reports as the build gets underway."
Tristan Samuels, group director for development and new business said: “We’re pleased to be playing our part in helping deliver the Council’s aims for Shoreham Harbour.
Once completed, our scheme will make a valuable contribution to the existing stock of affordable homes locally, to the broader public realm and to the local economy, particularly given the inclusion of the commercial units and the associated job opportunities that stand to be created as a result. It was great to meet Steve on site, to update him on the progress that New Ways is making as well as discussing housing matters more broadly.”
Mark Yarwood, New Way’s Construction Director added: “We really recognise the importance of seeing this development delivered and delivered as efficiently as possible. We appreciate the broader development activity that’s happening locally, and we’re keen to complete our work in a manner that causes as little disruption and inconvenience as possible. We’re committed to continuing to make sure local residents and the wider community remain updated on our work over the coming weeks and months.”
It’s expected that the whole development will be completed by early to mid-2026.
