We’re proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week this week!

Your safety is our top priority and this campaign helps raise awareness of gas safety.

Gas Safety Checks

We carry out annual gas services for our customers to make sure your boiler is working well. Unsafe gas appliances can cause gas leaks and fires.

These appointments are arranged by letter and are very important. Please make sure you’re home for your appointment and if you miss it for any reason, please get in touch to rearrange it straight away.

If you’re a leaseholder or you own your home through the shared ownership scheme, you’re responsible for your own gas safety checks. You should use a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix and service your appliances. You can find an engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.

Stay safe from carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas that has no smell or taste. Breathing it in can make you unwell, and it can kill if you're exposed to high levels. Damaged cookers, heaters and central heating boilers can cause leaks. Most of our homes are fitted with a CO alarm to keep you safe; if you don’t have one, get in touch and we’ll get one put in. And here’s some important information to be aware of:

Keep an eye on your gas appliances to make sure they’re working well. The warning signs are:

  • black marks or staining around your appliances
  • pilot lights frequently going out
  • if the flame on your cooker is yellow or orange instead of crisp and blue.

The symptoms of CO poisoning are:

  • headaches
  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • breathlessness
  • loss of consciousness
  • symptoms which only appear in your home

If you experience any of these symptoms, see your GP immediately or go to hospital.

If you think there’s a gas leak:

  • open all your doors and windows straight away
  • turn off your gas appliances and turn the gas off at the meter
  • put out any flames
  • leave the house
  • to report a gas or carbon monoxide emergency, call the Gas Emergency Helpline on 0800 111 999. It’s open 24 hours a day.
